    turbo identifying

Hey guys need some help identifying a turbo.
Its either a gt2871r or a gt2876r, but i can't seem to google the serial numbers and been to garrett website, but i can't find it
    Garrett tag says;
    14411-TM416
    700982-1

I was researching this turbo about 2 weeks back. Some guy was selling it on boostcruising.com forums and i was looking for a gt2871r to buy at the time. As far as i know its close to a 2871 or 2876 but i couldnt figure it out myself. Some guys said that it was a custom garrett turbo from a sarb and they was rare.

Its unfortunate the garrett doesnt hold all of there turbo models in a database online. They only hold the models they are selling now. You have to call them for specifics and thats a pain in the a$$ really.

looks like a SR20 ballbearing turbo, exactly the same front & rear housing as the SR20 type turbo a/r60, but the inducer is 52.9mm, dunno what size the exducer is otherwise i would have worked it out already.

i dun think it was a SAAB turbo as they are generally low boost turbos and they tend to use KKK bush bearing ones

yeh but we all know that sr20det's have 6 different models of turbo. And then the gt28rs and some 71's in different trims and exhaust housings also have the same compressor and looks to a sr20 turbo.

I reckon there is around 20-30 turbos in a/r 60 with 0.64 exhaust housing. I wonder how many people in the past have sold turbo's just thinking it was something else and not bothered to look at serials and model numbers.

If there is no info around on google the only real way is to some how get in contact with garrett but the chance in finding out what model it is in a couple days is slim. I reckon it would take at least a week+ to get info from them.

You know who you might wanna contact. GCG as they stock almost all of the Garrett turbo range. Or even call places like Turbotech (in perth) they been open for like 10-20 years and rebuild just about any turbo you can think of.

yeah i contacted GCG also via email no reply.

Yeah i've been looking and i don't think they ever made the GT2876r in the sr20 shell as an option by garrett. Its always been the GT2871, also the 2871 has a few different inducer sizes. HKS do make a 2540 which is a gt2876 in the SR20 housing but their turbos say HKS on them.

I don't see people going out getting super custom Garrett turbos that's all. If they had that type of money they would have gone HKS or something else

again i'm more tipping to the 2871 but unless i pull the whole thing apart i won't know unless someone knows what the serial number is

Yeh all of the garrett range have two different models. The hks model and the normal garrett model.

My old gt28r was a gt2560r in HKS terms.

GCG email back 1-2 days later. Ive been contacting them for the last 3 weeks before i bought my gt2871r. If you call them they answer straight away.

yeah may give them a call.
btw.. a 2510 is the hks number for a GT28r
    HKS2530 - GT28RS
    HKS2535 - GT2871r
    HKS2540 - GT2876r

i worked it out using google & comparing the compressor & exhuast wheel sizes

GT28r is the common name for it, the true garret name is the GT2560R
