    EG Brake Upgrade

I am looking to upgrade my EG Gli brake to either EK4 4stud or DC2R 5stud front and rear and I want to ask beside the bling factor, what are the different between them?

To be a bit more specific, basically if you have rear drums, then you can upgrade to discs.

Some EG's came with 239mm front brakes (be best to check it out yourself).
EK's come with 262mm front brakes mostly(which provide a larger pad and rotor).
All civics came with 239mm rears. (if they were discs)
DC2r's came with 282mm front brakes (even larger pad and rotor)
DC2r's came with 260mm rear brakes (even larger pad and rotor)

I recall that there is also a way to upgrade 239mm rears to 260, in 4x100. But with that said, any 5 lug conversion will also require all the nesscary running gear ie. wheels to suit 5 lug, master cylinder, prop valves, knuckles etc etc.

If your in it for function over form, get some good fluid in your system, new rotors and pads. Also, your brakes are only as good as your tires~ so you may want to look into that too.

Also, the diffrences might not be just stopping power, but resistance to fade and heat. Also the actual cost of putting each setup together.

It's usually easier/cheaper just to bolt on a disk brake trailing arm.

You WILL need to change to a 4040 proportioning valve if changing from drums to disks.

A 1inch master cylinder does not upgrade the braking paower but many users report increased responsive-ness. It's also best done when all the other pieces are being pulled apart.

    > EK's come with 262mm front brakes mostly(which provide a larger pad and rotor).

Not sure about that. I think there's a few pre 98 EK1 hatches with 242 disks.

    > DC2r's came with 282mm front brakes (even larger pad and rotor)

You can salvage the 262mm rear caliper from a range (small) of Honda models, not just a DC2R.
AFAIK the caliper casting number is 9CLP14.
260mm 4x100 rear rotors are impossible to find and might need to get them from Honda to suit a 02-03 EP3 Civic.

IMHO save your money, a good set of premium street pads will go a long way.

i am putting a B18Cr engine in my gli EG with rear drum.... i dont think a good set of pads will help. Anyway, can anyone confirm if EK4 brake set will bolt on to a EG? Also what is the price I am looking for to do this convert.

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I would ask in here:

Is the following brake setup on an EG enough to pass Engineering Cert and satisfy the occasional circuit/400m weekend.

    4x100
    DC2R 282mm front
    DC2 240mm rears
    1" Booster+MC
    ADR approved Braided Line

    1. For K20A (I/H/E/Kpro?
    2. For B18CR?

Or is it a must to go big brake upgrade (320, or wilwood, dual pot etc) with lightly modded K20?

usually you look at the donor car and go from there
so if donor car has 282mm brakes or 300 mm brakes standard \then you will need the roughly the same
depends on engineer at the end of the day
