I don't think you have to go to the extreme of gearbox rebuilding.

I've had my car for near 3 years and it does it in reverse and sometimes in first (hardly), but besides that it works always

This is similar to my situation, First of all, When i start the car and i wanna go into 1st or reverse.. It seems that i can't jam it in the gear. Supposing i reverse then i wanna go to 1st, IT GETS STUCK. I try to budge it out but the only thing i can do it stall the car. When i do that, it pops out of gear and i'm all good to goto first!

Don't know if its the gearbox or the Synchro.?? Don't know about the clutch?what u think??

1200 to rebuild....thats not bad. Was that a straight up rebuild? or was there aftermarket gears involved?

would it be cheaper to get new gearbox ?, maybe not cheaper in the sense of recon is $1500 and new box is $2000 or woteva but if you are fixing a problem then it is more likely to happen again, where as with a new one it is fine and has warranty...hmm up to you...but if its stuffed cos you thrash it you might need stronger box

I wouldn't bother rebuilding a VTiR box, i'd hunt for a TypeR box (if it's not too far above budget)

Costs also depend on how much is broken inside the box..
A good figure from Honda is about $3000 with replacement of synchro's and gears

hmmm any companies that build aftermarket gear boxes for the type R?

Spoke to a friend this arvo/evening and he said that 1200 is way too high. He then went into this detailed description of how to get the box out and replace the bearings and etc etc ....totally lost me but then again this same guy does most of the work on his car. Anyways back to the point of the gear box...in the context of replacing the synchro's....he reckoned 400 bucks for the parts themselves. I think im going to try and convince him to rebuild my box ...hahaha. First of all though....the dry carbon fiber bonnet!!!
