The only reason this thread is still open is because someone might have a mechanic in the ACT they can recommend

Honda are always more expensive. Apparently they have 'expert Japanese mechanics" at Honda Artarmon.

Was quoted $600 for a 100 000k service at the local Mobil. Includes a new timing belt and fixing the brakes. Didn't catch exactly what the mechanic said about my brakes but apparently it's a known problem with Civics i.e in hot weather you would be stationary with your foot on the brake at a set of lights and all of a sudden the brake would become loose and collapse allowing it to go all the way to the floor. The car still remains stationary but the brake feels loose. Has anyone had this problem ?

I did my mums prelude at 195,000 with Robert. It took Peter about 4 hours and it wasn't just the timing belt, it was a major service (all filters, sparkies, oil and you name it on a major service), replaced one of the thermo fans, fuel pump relay.

When I first got my CD I took it to Ultratune and they took all day on it as they didn't have the parts and forgot to order something else. All I had was the 100,000 timing belt, service and brake pads changed. When I was told after about Hanny's I've NEVER looked back. It's worth my nearly hour drive to see the boys.

Funnily enough I spoke to Robert and he just told me to bring it in on Friday morning for the major service and re-kit of the clutch master Hows that for action and I only wanted to see if they had time...

    Love those guys

Don't take it to Honda anywhere. Their prices are over the top and their mechanics border on useless.

Hannys is the only way to go.

If I can drive my SiR 600km to get the engine rebuilt when it hits 300,000kms... you can too =D

BTW - I just ring and book in for the next day with no issues - then again, I've known Robbie and Peter for 20 years now.

bag the dealerships if you want but bite your toung on the mechanics.

yes most of them might be dipshits, but I know for a fact there are some talented mechanics out there in Honda dealserships.

the problems usually occur when aprentices work on cars and there work goes unchecked.

so chill with the picking on Honda Techs

I'll modify it then: In the last 20 years, I have had nothing but trouble every time I have taken a Honda to a dealership for service or work. In my experience, I have always bourne the brunt of shoddy workmanship including having to take it to other mechanics including generalist mechanics as well as specialists to have the issues caused by the mechanics fixed.

I have also heard reports from others with the same issues, but that's 2nd hand info so we can disregard it.

I won't trust any car I own to a Honda dealer/mechanic again, based on my past experiences.

    Better?

Yes i have this problem as well with my EG VTi. I first discover this when i stop at a slop, i put my foot in the brake. Suddenly the brake faded and the car went forward. It was scary. That day is not that hot either.

I did my 200,000Km service at a Mobile Station mechanic. Changed Timeing Belt, tryed to fix the brake problem with replacing the brake fluid and changing the rear brake pad. All up cost me about $700.

The brake problem still there, but it not so notable. He said next service will need to change the front pad as well...

Do any one know how to fix this problem? Or Where is best to go to do a Honda service in Melbourne?
