Car sound upgrade is always a must unless the stock runs a really good one, like gtr 35 runs 8.1 BOSE systems lol

it depends on the type of cars.

in a Type R which supposed to be light weight, i won't bother to put an amp with a big sub. but i'd definitely replace the crap oem speakers.

yeah as I know mazda 3 is running Bose system for stock,IMO maybe a 10 inch sub will be sweet and won't be that heavy, but definitely need an amp,If not considering sub then maybe will be good to put a pair of 6x9 on parcel tray

Get an Alpine head unit. Good value for money Get a 3preout head unit if you want to put an amp. I can feel a difference when I take my amp, sub & spare wheel off. Feels heaps lighter. LOL

I do run a removable small sub with a built in amp just to fill in some bass.

but a Type R has minimal sound deadening anyway. so from the start it's not good for sound quality. so might as well save the $$.

but if you get the stuff for free, why not lol.

i agree Alpine is pretty good. i got a cheapo one with ipod control and usb and it served me well with my JDM Alpine DDLinear speakers. i decided to get this over the Type R because of its efficiency. it doesn't need an external amp to run it well.

My whole setup is alpine until last weekend yen I went out and bought a sub lol. But like Phill said there isnt much sound deadening so it does sound pretty crap compared to my last cars.
