I thought I posted it in the wrong forum. Anyway no the gearboot is not clipped onto the gear knob. It is really tight.. I can't even twist it.

eat a few weet bix and try again
I remember my EG gear knob being a bit tight.
If you can improve your grip on it that may help.

skip the wheat bix, go get some nutri-grain!

use two hands, one ontop of the otpher and twist LEFT (left to loosen!) and once u get past the first half twist it becomes easy

get some a cardboard board, rip a piece off, wrap the gear & then put vice grips over it and turn anti clockwise.

probably someone loctite-d or thread taped the thread.
Grab some locking pliers or similar for leverage , apply and lock to the head of the gearknob.

Rotate COUNTER-CLOCKWISE. You should be able to crack it. Be warned that this probably will ruin the gearknob.

Get one of those rubber pads that your mum uses to open tubs of sauce then breathe deep, yell your favourite psych up phrase, put on eye of the tiger and twist like a man.
