I was deciding between the Mazda 6 and the Euro when I was looking for a new car. I was very well aware of the engine pinging issue back then but apparently the M6 had a steering issue!? At the end of the day I chose the Euro as the engine pinging was only an aural issue whereas I would classify a steering problem as a safety issue.

Euro - you can't go wrong.

I bought my Euro in June-discovered the PING after the sale !

BUT.........it has been 95% fixed and the car is tops any way.

If I were you-I would drive the Salesman hard ( on price) on this Pinging issue. If he says its a NON ISSUE -turn on your heels and find another dealer.

Out of all this I still reckon HA need a good boot up the exhaust.

    Heya Guys,

    just collecting some information.

How many of you had the "E10 Compatible" sticker removed from your fuel cap. Small yellow sticker.

So far its me and H.T.

had mine removed without any permission at time of PING fixing

The pinging problem is no longer an issue now that the update has been rolled out for 08 plated vehicles. I do not believe there is an issue with 09 plated vehicles. While it was an annoying issue for most of us it was never a detrimental problem.
As for using E10, I will never consider it while ever I have a choice in the matter.

Edit: Mine's still intact... albeit a bit banged up from the "poping mechanism" of the fuel door.

Guys, not sure about the rest of you however, despite two fixes applied to my car, it still pings. Whilst no where near as bad as it was, the reality is, it still pings. Especially when the weather is hotter.
I run the car on 98 Octane (BP Ultimate) and still find that it pings on occassions. I have raised this with Honda on numerous occassions and they are now telling me that there is no further fix. Is this Right ? If so, then they have certainly sold me a dud. Are you all experiencing the same.

Would be interested in your feedback around this as it has driven me insane. Huge dissapointment. I have actually raised the issue with the Department of Fair Trading to be honest given Honda' s stance on this whole issue and a rep from the DFT will be test driving the car.

I'm also considering going to the media as I honestly feel that I have had the wool pulled over my eyes. An absolute disgrace. 13 months for a fix to be applied and it only minimises/disguises the issue. What a joke.

Does anyone else feel this way ? I certainly would not tell my friends or family to purchase this vehicle. Nice looking car and nice to drive but it pings. What a lemon!

Your thoughts would be appreciated as I'm looking to take this further if not resolved by Honda. Alternatively if you guys think I'm wasting my time let me know.

Anyone want to Buy my car ? Ha ha Only 11000Km's (top of the range)

seriously, I'm considering getting rid of this vehicle given this whole experience and Honda's pathetic stance and service. I'll never buy another Honda again that's for sure.

    Im interested in your feedback.

    Thanks.

I have done over 7,000km since the update & have had no further issues with pinging. 13 months to come up with a solution is quicker than I expected. I don't know of a better car on the market than a Euro in the price range. As I have said many times Honda Australia & their dealer network can only follow service/warranty updates that are recommended by Honda Japan.

I would not buy anything other than a Honda unless I win lotto.

1500km ish after the updates, still no pinging here...

Bilt, what colour is your car?

    Bye2 Honda... Hello Mazda family

Mine is 6,500km post-fix and I have exactly the same as you - still pinging, not as bad but definitely pinging. Pretty disappointed but almost resigned to it now. If DFT need more examples let me know.

I had the fix done a few months back now and haven't had a ping since. I just checked and my E10 sticker is still there but i would never use the stuff.

If anyone watched the Bathurst race this year the extra pit stops they had to do to fill up with E10 should tell you something about the economy trade off.
