Does it get louder with speed or engine RPM? Also does it go away when you engage the clutch?

iv seen many hondas both integra and civic have the same problem, the noise sounds kind of like a rotational scratching sound, this happens in 1st, 2nd and 3rd when the shaft is under more load. when it starts off the sound is very faint but can get quite loud if left for a long time, the bearing just deteriorates further. I had one case where we changed the gear box oil and it almost went away completely and was fine for a long time but usually it just gets worse.

its a problem with preload on the bearing from the factory, causes premature bearing failure.

A good way to check is quoted above, it gets louder with engine rpm and will disappear when clutch is engaged.

i had the same problem on my eg6 engine in the eg i used to have:

As you can see, didn't get much out of this thread... I went to two mechanics but both said its natural wear and just to leave it until it starts getting louder quicker... If you're worried I would just get it pulled apart, put a new clutch and bearings in it and at the same time the mechanic will see if anything else is causing a problem....
