Bilt, parents first Honda is an 08 euro lux and it is nice looking, good to drive etc etc. Used to ping but got fixed but also has the rear parcel shelf rattle, centre console lid moves and is unsupported at back, handbreak lose again(presume dealer adjusting it not replacing in first place when it was lose). Now with pinging gone throttle response and 'go' feel to be a little minimised which is a dissapointment for a fix. But fuel economy is better.
To be honest they probably wouldnt buy another one because of one the problems and two, hondas response to the problems.

If anyone watched the Bathurst race this year the extra pit stops they had to do to fill up with E10 should tell you something about the economy trade off.
V8 supercars run E85 so impact of fuel economy is a lot worse compared to running E10.

But I thought I saw a lemon in there as s well?
All jokes aside, when you guys say your car still pings after the fix, is it obviously audible or do you have to turn off the stereo and actually listen out for it? The reason I ask is because I've got pretty sensitive hearing but after the fix was applied to my car, I actually have to listen out for it and even then it would be like, *PI...* hang on... did I just hear a ping or was it my imagination?

Just after the fix, it was fine. Over time it has worsened. Still nowhere near as bad as pre-fix, but it is clearly audible without having to "listen out for it". I am actually wondering if it's my driving style, given HA said it takes a while to "learn" after the fix. Maybe I should disconnect the battery to reset the ECU????

Maybe.. Maybe not.. depending on your circumstances.
In terms of function, they can all seat exactly 5 and carry reasonable amount of luggage. (The boot in the Golf is actually quite big). There's nothing any one of the 3 could do exceedingly well that the rest couldn't. The CX-7 is an SUV but a small one, the GTI is a "sports" car but not ballistic/hard core enough, the Euro fits somewhere in btw being a mid size sedan. All 3 supposedly have good build quality.
So if you're someone who's after something *a little bit* special (not a Camry, Thai Accord, etc.), have a budget of no more than 45K, want the everyday practicality, AND cannot afford more than 1 car then all the 3 mentioned fit in.

denot, it's Volcano grey. Luxury model with the nav. It does not ping all the time. It's intermittently pinging. However, if a fix has been applied then why do we still have this issue ?
Buddah, I'm really interested to learn what they actually did to your car as I'm assuming that the same fix was applied to all Euo's with this problem. I had the knock sensor replaced twice and a new ECU installed. As a result, I'm not sure why others who had this fix applied are fine and some cars still have this issue. Clearly the same fix has not been applied. Are you able to advise ? Also, where did you get your car fixed, ie what dealership ?
I also note your commentary around waiting 13 months to address this issue. Mate, I understand what you are saying however, when you are buying a product in good faith for the full purchase price then it is unacceptable for the company involved who is selling the product to expect people to just sit back and wait until they are good and ready to fix the issue. 13 months to enjoy a product ? See,ms unreasonable to me. But I do understand what you are saying. The car manufacturing industry is in a world of it's own.
let me know please. I will be looking to meet with a rep from the DFT next week. They'll probably do nothing but hey it's worth a try to put some pressure on Honda to take some ownership.

LOL mate, I will be looking around the same cars as well if I have the dough... but my turn off will be @ GTI. Not really ideal for family car (for small hatchback to go to work will be good, though).
If I have 45k and hasnt bought my CU2, these will be my options: CU2, CX7 and Lancer Ralliart
anyway, I will buy the CU2 out of these three (just cause my red P wife cant drive CX7 and Ralliart - turbocharged )
