Well at the moment im using honda accord euro luxury wheel on fd1... not sure about the width, but the offset somewhere around +48 and its really close to damper and the clearance from damper to wheel about 1cm.

So if accord euro luxury wheel width around 7-7.5 and its 17" and if you are going to put 18"x8 +48 i think its gonna be thight fit....

18x8 +48 is fine without rubbing man. unless u have extra money to fork out to try and make +35 - +40 offsets fit, then u'll be in for some headaches.

guard work, stiff suspension and stretched tyres would be just the begining if ur looking for flush fitment

18x8 +(38~42) with 225/40r18 or a 215/40r18 is my recommendation for a bolt on fit, pretty much the same recommendation as stigs.
these dimensions will allow you to fit a wheel and tire without any hassles.
you wont need to worry about the inner hitting, or the outter scrubbing.

i dunno who your going to listen to.. really dont mind either.. but im certain your going to have problems with 18x8 +48, when you decide to lower it later on.

that is all im gonna say.

ill put it into perspective for you.
forget about the tires. those are another matter you can always stretch etc.. but in your case you dont need to worry about it because the specs you are looking at arent hectic.

yours and my stock wheels are
    17x7 +45

compared to 18x7.5 +45 (your idea of a safer option.)
    Inner Clearance:6mm LESS
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 6mm

compared to 18x8 +48 (the one im not recommending you go)
    Inner Clearance:16mm LESS
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 10mm

compared to my front wheel 18x8 +35
    Inner Clearance:3mm LESS
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 23mm (get out a ruler and look.. there is plenty of room.)

my rear wheel, 18x9 +35 (if i can do this, why cant you fit a 18x8 all round?)
Inner Clearance:15mm LESS (only reason this number looks similar to the one above is because this is a 9" rim)
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 35mm

if you wanna play around with the numbers... if you keep the width the same and play with the offset number.. if you go a higher offset.. so if you +1 to offset you +1 to inner clearance and -1 from outter clearance. etc.. etc.. and vice versa.
