LOL! They got a fix, it works, what more do you want them to do?

What pinging problem? This is a dead issue (providing the software update is done correctly).

DITTO, Mine was fixed months ago and I haven't had any sign of it since. Couldn't be happier with the car or the service I have received.

But maybe I am deaf, the last time I had the car in I asked the dealer to look at a rattle coming from the rear parcel shelf. It turned out to be an incorrectly fitted boot spring, at the same time they changed the drink holder lid because the trim was rattling, I hadn't even noticed it?

    Hi Jbowly,

Thanks for a most comprehensive chronology of your 'pinging' probs with the CU 2. I used to own an 04' CL9 6MT which gave great service however one niggly problem which Honda dealers refused to address was an intermittent noise whilst the a/c was running(Px/Tx valve ?) Very frustrating when they continually duck and weave and you're left scratching your head.
Last week I drove a friend's CU2 auto for the first time and it pinged like crazy. This problem is outrageous and Honda need to lift their game, maybe the fair trading people should be notified ?
Driving the CU2 left me underwhelmed, the auto is gutless compared to the CL 9 manual and it doesn't even sound good anymore. The CL9 sounded quite glorious especially when revving to the redline.
It puzzles me how a huge corporation like Honda can screw up the engine in such an eagerly anticipated new model, the CL 9 was such a fabulous vehicle and I'm sure it is sorely missed.
I currently own a Lexus RX however I'm going to replace it with the 'last of the line' 2008 CL 9.
My advice to any prospective Euro owner is to avoid the CU2 (unless they fix the damn thing properly) and stick with a CL9 ! A tried and proven vehicle.

Cheers and good luck with it all.

^^^ firstly, i think he did contact fair trading. Secondly, u comparing manual vs auto and complaint that the auto doesnt feel like driving a manual? isnt it obvious to most cars?

    Hello Denot,

Thanks for the update re fair trading and yes after driving since 1980 I certainly know the performance difference between an auto and manual of the same model.
My whole point is that the CU2 is SLOWER across the board than the CL9, a regression in my book. You'd be hard pressed shaking a Mazda 6 from the rear view mirror in a CU2 ! not the case in a CL9.
Most new models have perfomance and economy gains, just look at the new Holden SIDI Commodores, heaps more power but better economy. Holden have never been considered as a technological tour de force, why couldn't Honda do this ? Even 'Wheels' who crowned the CU2 car of the year said that it feels like 20 KW has gone missing. One of the most appealing aspects of the CL9 was it's nimbleness.
From my perspective and having driven a CU2, Honda have gone backwards with performance. A 0.5 litre/100 economy improvement just doesn't excite me, 0-100 times do.

1-As previously stated the pinging problem has been rectified.
2-Please explain how Honda "screwed up" the engine in the CU2.
3-I fail to see where the CU2 Auto is gutless when you can comfortably sit on double the speed on the open road.
4-Sure the CL9 was a very good car, But the CU2 is better in every area (type R, step in here as an oner of both models)
5-Personally, there is no way I would buy a CL9 in front of a CU2.

As for 20kw gone missing, the K24 is just about at the end of it's development cycle unless they add a hair dryer to it which would then put it in a different class & attract a different buyer group. I don't believe there are many 2.4 litre non turbo engines around that put out more than 148kw. Also remember that the CU2 has grown to the point where it is almost falcon/crapadore size. That obviously creates some performance disadvantages, but realistically who counts or cares about a few tenths of a second here & there, especially when 7000rpm in 2nd gear (Auto) is loss of licence territory.

I notice Holden make a big deal advertising their new SIDI can go 900km down the highway on 1 Tank of fuel. Well, the CU2 can go beyond 1000km down the highway on 1 tank, yet no advertising about it.

There is no way a crapadore can compare with a honda, Unless your into towing heavy loads, & of course continuous warranty issues.

0 to 100 times, who does that in their own car? If that is what interests you try an XR6 turbo or an F6, not a Honda as that is not what they are designed for.

    Bilt,

I too had the same pinging problem with my 09 Euro lux and received a lovely letter from Ken Sheppard. I say 'had' because I sold the vehicle - and with only a small loss. I still had pinging even after the 'fix'. I also had faulty A/C and problems with my steering - the car was in the shop on a monthly basis (often at Honda's request to fix something else they found). Topped off with really poor service i was fed up.

If you are really unhappy about the Euro, my advice to you is to get rid of it. Trade it in/sell it and cut your losses - before the problem is more widely known. Otherwise you will spend more time, energy and money in the long run and you won't enjoy driving your car. The pinging problem has not been resolved for all (despite what some posts might say). And if you do get rid of your Euro, give HA the finger and make lots of noise about it.

Oh, and if HA are reading these posts (which I believe they are) - get stuffed!

Well, that's what they are saying.

Too be honest this is an absolute joke. Honda should be ashamed of themselves. If they can't fix the problem then they should be refunding people their money. Not good enough!

I didn't think I would get anywhere given their (honda's) response on this to date but it was worth the shot.

Whilst I agree that the car is nice to drive but the pinging just spoils this car. Big time. What's the point of providing a warranty if you can't fix a car.

    See attached response below.

As a result, I have gone back and asked them whether or not they feel this is how they should treat their clients. Whether or not their CEO feels this is good enough, and when they will be applying a real fix and not a ptach job.

I doubt I'll get a response as they just don't care however, I have reminded them once again, this will be the last Honda I buy.

Perhaps we should just go to the Media ?????

Perhaps we should just all turn up to a specific dealer and stand out the front with big signs advising all would be customers not to buy Honda's. May be then they will take this serious.

You'll note from the attached letter, basically they confirm what we all knew upfront. The car needs to ping for the knock sensor and ECU to do their thing. How is this a fix ???

Pathch Job if I have ever seen one.

    Well done Honda. Pathetic!

Just wondering the latest built of Accord Euro still got pinging issue? I am planning to purchase EUro before End of Jan-Feb and wondering is it still good idea go for EUro or go to the new Liberty sedan as i never heard problem with Liberty. The only thing is i like the smooth of euro(i never heard pinging issue when i was test drive the euro for 15mins in dealers area roads),however after read many reviews here the pinging issue still exists after the fix i am thinking is it worth to invest my hardly earned money into Euro

    Thanks
