With my Accord Euro they didn't change oil at the 1000km service. Just a check up. I think the newer Honda's aren't getting oil changes at 1000km either.

first oil change isnt needed til at least 5-10,000 a first service is a checkover. change sticker, clean windows, top up fluids if needed, lube battery and doors, tyre pressures, tyre shine etc. ive worked for a dealer that does holden honda suzuki kia nissan subaru and hyundai never have i done a first service where the book has said. or it has been requested that an oil change is done. have a read of your service booklet see what the schedule is. sticking to that is all that is required

thanks gee-aye-dee, very helpful, it turns out that the oil isn't changed, i read the service booklet as you stated =], the oil is replaced at 10,000 k or 5000, not the first 1000 k.

Is it safe to go over the first 1,000k service

    Greetings All
How times have changed. The dealer servicing my first Civic - a 1991 model - insisted that engine oil be changed at 1,000k's and, if I remember correctly, they weren't happy if the car came in with over 1,200k's on it.

My 2009 model owner's manual states that the oil should not be changed before the first scheduled service - 10,000k's. Reason: Honda fills the sump with running-in oil, which should remain until 10,000, or six months. Honda's "brilliant" communication fails to mention the reason for the late change - our local dealer had to tell me, when told I wanted to change early.

While this grumpy old bugger is having a moan, that rather large owner's manual misses out on imparting such important info as how much oil is needed to increase the engine oil level between minimum and maximum on the dipstick, or same on the auto transmission dipstick.

^ it is interesting isnt it... what i would find very interesting is to understand the properties of this so called "running in oil" and how it differs to regular engine oil...

i think motors are built differently today with different tolerances, as such can go without the oil change...

    still, very interesting
