spoke to him, saw the car, didn't take it for a test drive.
    he's a very nice guy.
the car does not have the integra type r silver badge plate on the centre console underneath the car. call honda, make sure it actually is an integra type r. the engine is a b18c7 from memory (integra type r engine) but check that as well. the body was very scuffed, but as far as crashes go i'm not sure (it doesn't look crashed, but hey i'm no expert). i didn't drive it so i can't tell you anything more detailed

check teh vin, matches with the engine number,
make sure all panels line up
make sure bolts have not been moved (you can see marks if they have usually)
    check for dodgy resprays..

Suss all the shit out first!, if something random pops up.. like a bonnet/panel/door has been replaced. and your sure of it.. ask the seller if its been in accident or if its had any body work done. if he answers untruthfully and tries to cover it up.. then GTFO lol.
I MISS VTEC.... BOOST is OVERATED lol

i think a few years back stat write offs were still register-able without any problems. i could be wrong.

Most cop shops wouldnt do anything about the car.

@OP dont buy the car you originally posted nomatter how cheap it is. (Unless he sells it for like $10, then maybe.

Guys you gotta give the DC2's some credit,
its been a good 10 years for most of the DC2R's!
A little more over 10 years for the VTi-R's and GSI's

So sometimes unless the owner hardparks or doesnt drive it daily
the car's paint and panels may be out of whacked just due to daily driving
and Heat exposure, Just make sure you look it over properly!

And usually bargains are a bit suss, but sometimes are real bargains!
Just play it smart, dont be an idiot and you'll be right.

Everyone should do a REVS check on their car before you buy it anyway - youd have to be a peanut not to.

You'll just have to be patient and keep looking. The thing with sites like carsales is that good cars appear and get snapped up in as little as a week, while crap cars (like that dodgy white DC2R) stay there for as long as a year or more.

I logged in almost daily and waited for close to 6 weeks when I was searching for a car on carsales before a decent one appeared there for sale that was good enough for my standards.

Under $15K you can get a good 1999-early2000 DC2 VTi-R, as long as the seller doesn't have some delusion of grandeur. There are still clueless/greedy people trying to flog DC4 GSi's for more than $10K.

Just adding to what someone said earlier- info from the vicroads site:

    Statutory write-off
A vehicle that is recorded as a statutory write-off after 1 May 2002, cannot be re-registered and the vehicle identification number (VIN) cannot be reused.

A vehicle will be recorded as a statutory write-off if it is a total loss and so severely damaged that it should not be repaired. Only certain parts from statutory write-offs may be used to repair other vehicles.
