    weird noise on 1st gear

Lately i've been experiencing this noise the only way i can describe the noise is as the screaching of worn out brakes in a car, that noise is made from when I'm on stand still and i clutch in and friction point to get the car starting to move.

Could there be something wrong with my clutch maybe needs oiling? or is it wearing out? the screaching happens more often when i try to do a quick take off or if i leave the clutch on friction point too long when i've given it gas already. help would be great thank you.

When was your last clutch change?
Have you experienced a slipping clutch at all?
You may have worn down to the rivets on the clutch pad.

VTec1987: Yes it does a screaching noise when taking off then goes away as soon as i get the car going and let go of the clutch.

lil_foy: Don't think its ever been changed. no slipping seems to run okay just the sound is worrying.

If so how much does it cost to get the clutch pad changed? should i drive anymore or will it cause more damage? When i do really slow take offs it doesn't seem to make a noise so i dont know

It is not the clutch disc or flywheel. It is the throwout bearing (also known as the clutch release bearing). The screeching will be worse if you were taking off from a standstill on an incline.

Downside of replacing it is the labour will be similar to that of actually replacing the clutch and flywheel! So maybe consider doing all 3 parts together to save on labour.
