Hey Guys, still waiting to hear back from Honda, as far as getting a second hand compressor that would be okay if the compressor was just worn out but mine has broken something inside, sounds like a heap of ball bearings grating around so, there is a very likelihood that metal has gone through all the major components of the system that is why they all need to be replaced and the rest of the system flushed. And yes I am the original owner.

Apparently there is a control module for diverting the cold air to both sides because of the dual mode system, and this module has had a history of failing, which is what has happened to mine. the mechanic contacted Honda in newcastle and was told 22 of these have failed (I don't know if this is just in Newcastle of all of Australia) The dealers have had a 50% success rate with "reprogramming" this unit. Otherwise the module is $680 and the labour time to R & R the dash is 10-12 hours. So at dealer hourly rates + parts I bet this runs into a $2,000 job. I will try the Goodwill thing with Honda also if I have to. Only had this thing for 3 months and now I don't think I like it. Had my Soarer for 10 years and it was a lot more complicated car but didn't give me any financial grief like this thing is trying to
That number is very alarming. I just bought this car, i dont want to have to ration when i use the A/C in fear of it failing on me. Its not something you should have to worry about on a car made in the last 10 - 15 years.
Its especially bad for us people with '03 models who are well out of warranty. I dont think Honda will be as willing with Goodwill warrantys when it comes to us.
Is there anything you can do to try to avoid these problems happening? Use recirculation mode etc?

Car is booked into the dealer (I hate using dealers) on wednesday. I don't feel very confident with them as the guy that took the booking was a complete tool.
I will be asking to speak to the guy who will be working on the car to see if he knows what he is doing (this Honda dealer also does Fords, Hyundais, BMW and Jeep). I am not going to be paying their hourly rate for some apprentice to fart arse around on the car and then come back to me several hours later and say they can't fix it without taking the dash out.

My compressor failed (was dead when I bought the car, but I thought it was a gas/leak problem). Ended up replacing the compressor with an aftermarket for $850 inc fitting and regas.
If anyone is interested do a search, i posted the details somewhere here before.

Dont think there is anything you can do, apparently the compressors are prone to the internal chrome hardening detaching, which in turn destroys the internal compressor components, this results in the entire air con system being contaminated with small metal filings from the compressor failure, thus requiring the replacement of all the major components of the system and also a total flush out to prevent the filings destroying the new compressor.. hope this gives you an idea of what can happen.. Car is at dealers now. Told that the initial charge will be $110 to diagnose the problem even though I have already had the car diagnosed at the Air Con place and told the dealer the problem. These a#seholes suck. I bet I post up here later that they couldn't fix it!

Still Waiting
Hey Guys,
Still waiting to hear from Honda Australia, weather they are going to agree to Goodwill Warranty, I found a thread where they have provided this for someone else in Victoria in the past so they have set a precedent, will let you all know as soon as I get word.

Will keep ya posted on my progress, fingers crossed. Have done some research on the net and it seems like this particular Compressor Part # HS110R is notorious for this problem
Thanks
Hey Guys I own a 2004 Euro Luxury, They use the same Air Con Compressor, Mine makes a severe rattling noise, car has done 150,000 Km's. I do-not think this is acceptable for a major component to last only this long. Applied To Honda Aus for goodwill warranty and it was rejected, Yet they have supplied this type of warranty to other people in the past so I donot understand what the difference is in my case. I am still having Discussions with them will post the outcome.
It is a common problem with this compressor so I feel that some assistance from Honda is Warranted. I would gladly pay labour costs if they at least supplied the parts, in my opinion I think this is reasonable. I have owned the car from new and never had a warranty claim before.
Another point i would like to make is that I use to work in the Automotive Industry making car components, and I spent some time in Japan Training. They are a very proud people with a sense of responsibility, so if needed i will take this directly to Honda Japan if i do'not achieve a satisfactory outcome from Honda Aus...
