easiest is by valve cover color (not sure if this is a reliable way)
red means type r, black means si-vtec

second is by intake manifold, pics here are taken from yahoo auction japan so one can safely assume both types are jdm model

ITR IM kinda points up, looks shorter too.

SI-VTEC kinda points down, looks longer

    LOL..
Rocket cover and IM can be change to look lyk a type R motor, there are alot of type r replica out there that can fit on the Vtir head.

Type R Motor should print PR3 on the head(on top of headers, near ps bracket)
JDM B18C(sir-g) should print p72 on it.

You bought ur self Skunk2 IM from jdm yard, u should straight away know if ur motor is type r or not based on the Im he sold u. If he gave you a pr3 IM and ur motor is a vtir, then it wouldnt fit.

So you can answer ur own question.

C5 is USDM, C7 is AUDM, as stated above JDM B-series are only stamped "B18C", you have to see if the head is stamped P72 or PR3 to tell the difference or just the IM.
