    Civic centre console slide jammed

    Hi All

Something inside seems to be jamming the sliding lid on the centre console bin on my '09 Civic.

Questions: 1 Does removing the black bin behind the console bin allow access to the obstruction. I tried removing the two Phillips screws at the base of the black bin, but they must have been tightened by somebody stronger than I
2 Does the slide run in its own enclosed channel, or is it unprotected and free to jam on anything solid in the bin that moves to the rear
3 If the answer to 2 is "no/yes", who designed it to allow that?

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated (bloody good thing my wallet isn't trapped in there, eh?).

    Cenre Console lid jammed

    Hi All
It appears this is a one-off, exclusive to me. Nobody has had this problem?

Anybody know if the two screws inside the rear bin are torx (correct spelling?) type?

I reallly need a picture to tell what you're talking about.

Try this to find things out for yourself.
start where it says to take the gear knob off.

This will help you figure out why the bin lids are getting jammed.

    Hi All
Many thanks for your comments, and diagrams from curtis265.
To inform you better, the owner's manual calls the offending bit the beverage holder, which is directly in front of and below, the console compartment; which has the centre armrest on it.

The beverage holder has a slatted cover, which slides to the rear, in its own guide, obviously around the corner at the rear of the slide and down the back somewhere.

I recall placing my gps mount in the beverage holder and I believe it has caught on one of the slats, jamming the slide shut. I had hoped that removing the console compartment would allow access to the slide-guide, but it won't, so the centre console will have to come off. Or, as it seems the beverage compartment is for holding drinks, and the odd tissue, I could ignore the problem, but a bigger problem is that I like everything in my car to work.

Strangely dealers I've spoken to have never experienced this problem (or would the cynics amongst us say, Yeah, right!)

    BTW The car is auto.

AGAIN, TA for your interest and help

i had a bunch of cd's in there one day and it jammed the slider shut. i ended up having to break the cd in half with brute force to open it again.

i feel for you though, as i was mightily pissed off at the time

    Greetings
After reading those two tales of woe, I'm counting my blessings that the beverage container holds only tissues and my gps mount. To have a wallet in there would mean wrecking the lid to recover it?
A dealer has offered to fix the problem, if he gets my next service, due in two weeks' time. Time will tell if it is actually free.

UPDATE: said dealer did fix it, but it took a while. The problem was caused by a pen left in the bin, and which moved, jamming shut the sliding lid.

Moral of the story: Only beverages to go into the beverage holder!
