    Oil temperature gauge in dc2r

Hi ppl, i currently drive a 2000 integra type r dc2, recently i have been having a problem with the readout on my oil temp meter in the dash.

What happens is that when i start my car off normally every morning the temp reads cold as it should, then about 3 mins later the position of the gauge moves close to the middle, where it reads as the car is warmed up at normal temperature, i know this can't be right as the car cannot reach normal temperature after 3 mins of normal driving.
The strange thing is that after 5 mins of driving the read out on the oil temperature goes back to cold again then only after 15 mins of driving does it stay constant at the middle position of the gauge which is normal temperatrue when the car is fully warmed up.

I am not sure what the problem may be and how to go about fixing it if it is a minor problem. Has anyone else ever experienced this in their cars?
any help would be greatly appreciated
    thanks

    Thermostat - think it's like a 10 dollar item

Only thing is, I'm not sure why the thermostat would show up warm first.
I think they usually troubleshoot this with trial and error. ie. replace thermostat first, then if issue is still there... look at voltages n stuff.

But if the thermostat #)%*# up, the water temp will never go over 1/3 or even 1/4 cos the coolant is keep flowing around on any temperature.

Or it's just because the circuit in the dash have bad-contact?

Hehe trial and error, i will get a mugen low-temp thermo at once....... or even take out the thermostat if you have a track car, have 1xx of dollar to get low temp one

Actually, if thermostat was stuffed, car still warms up, but the guage can go up and down depending on your speed.

But if yours jumps at startup, i think its something else..
