I was quoted over $300 from a dealer to get a spare key for my CL9. What I am doing is getting a blank key online. Got one for around $8 including shipping.
Got an old key from ebay to reprogram the remote. Turned out the immobiliser chip wasn't right so ordered a couple of chips. My CL9 uses ID48 chips. Not sure what the CU2 uses. Maybe 8E chip?
Dealer said they will reprogram the immobiliser for $50 so once I get my blank keys I will get them reprogrammed. In all, it will cost me around $100 to get a working set. If it all works. Fingers crossed.
Yeah I bought my chips fromt that website keymam.com. My first blank keys from ebay didn't cut properly so I've ordered a couple of blank keys from them. Hopefully it's not all a waste.
Nigel's Shoe Repairs ? Think you need to fix the link buddy, lol.
You'll find most shoe repair places also cut keys, repair watches, engraving and also sell you Zippo lighters. They can't survive by only cutting keys unless they are a locksmith doing callouts to people who are locked out of their house.
Nigel's Shoe Repairs did a good job of cutting my blank key in Perth city. $15
now i need to reprogram the immobilizer transponder chip for that spare key.
I read that they can just read the frequency off the original key to reprogram the new transponder. No need to reprogram the immobilizer unit.
Anyone can confirm whether this is true?
Burswood Honda said they can reprogram for $60 but cannot guarantee it will work because the chip may not be the same?
How can I check the chip ID required for a CU2?
There is A1 locksmiths & Diamond Lock and Key who may be able to reprogram but they also said that they cannot guarantee it will work.
Not sure about the price though.
