hey people, im wanting to know some things when it comes to replacing the front windshield. when the glass fitters come to fit the new glass, do they also replace all the seals or just slam in the new glass?

slam on the new glass, they use black silicon to glue that sh!t down following masking tape/clear tape to hold the current exisiting seals down..

ok then thanks for that. looks like ill be ordering new oem seals then, i dont know if the windshield has ever been replaced or the seals. does anybody have a picture of what seals ill need for this?

While I'm unfamiliar with your model, many Japanese cars of the last 30-40 years tend to use "glued in" windscreeens, that glue straight to the car body. Certainly my model Civic (1998) does, and an earlier (1972 model) Japanese car I also owned did, too. They have no rubber seals to replace - if the glass needs replacing then a new screen just glues in, after the old one is removed.

If yours has obvious rubber seals around the windscreen, then they may need to be replaced, and sealed. There are several companies which specialise in auto rubber seals (Peter Jackson's Old Auto Rubber, for one) that will sell them to you. Windscreen replacement places may also be able to get new ones for you. They don't necessarily need to be replaced - I had a windscreen on an Alfa replaced once after it got chipped by a rock thrown up by a car going the other way when I was driving home from work - by the time I'd got home the chip had travelled 6 inches, and developed into a major crack. I just had the screen replaced, but not the rubber seal and it was OK afterwards - didn't leak before or after - I had it for about 4 years after that, before I sold it.

there are no seals lol, the seal is the silicon itself.

going buy the fact that it says u have a eg hatch there is no rubber seals its a clip on plastic on the sides and a more of a rubber/plastic on top.

when they replaced mine they glued it then when the glue was dry we then cli[ed the plastics back on

Yes, as the others have said, it just glues in. When I had my Civic's windscreen replaced I just took it in at lunchtime, and picked it up after work. They normally tell you to take it easy driving home, as the glue takes some time to dry completely, but it just fixes the windscreen straight onto the hole in the body, and there's nothing else to seal up, so no rubber seals are required.

The old "rubber seal" windscreens were slightly smaller than the hole in the body and the rubber held them on, if you like, whereas the glued in windscreens overlap the hole in the body by maybe 10mm, and are glued to it. There usually are trim pieces that clip on to hide the edge of the glass, where it's glued, but they are just cosmetic, and have no sealing function. The seal is the glue that holds it onto the body.

depends on the condition of the seals, mine still being from 1996 were still good enough to reseal and be re-used

they (racq) just came to my house during lunch and did it, was pretty straightforward

the side moulds are 100 each from honda and top piece is around 50 bucks
and also you need new clips as they will break most times when removing they are 5 bucks each from honda
make sure you check the glass before they install as cheap places have imperfections in the glass

i recommend getting new moulds if you want a neater finish

^^^ thats what i wanted to hear
i know that there are clips on the side black mouldings of the windshield, and im pretty sure the glass guys dont care if they break them as you wont be able to see them. but me being picky, ill get the new mouldings/clips ordered new just not from honda australia :-p

Hi riruiz_88,

Could you please let me know How much did you pay for the side black mouldings and clips. My windscreen got replaced (under insurance) 3months back and I just realised today that right side moulding is bet loose. After inspecting, clips are intact but holders under the moulding for clips are broken.

I am with AAMI, calling them to sort this out is not going to work so looking for cheap options for replacing.
