There is very little information on auto boxes but I know the EG boxes are bigger than the earlier model boxes and whilst they may fit onto the D Series engine, fitting the box to the earlier chassis is not possible without major surgery. I'd say that if the two boxes have the same ID then you have no problems, especially if you are sticking with the EG/EK chassis.
