Importing a car from japan

one website... import monsters. they have all the info you need on fees or w.e just have a look. they also can do the importing for you but its expensive. anyways check it out, dont suggest you do any purchasing through them, cant remember why but there was like some sort of catch for when the item does reach aus and gets delivered. tell me progress if you do import im interested in importing aswell :P

i heard somewhere that in order to import a jap car you need to have owned that car in japan for greater then 1 year, not sure about the truth to this though but if that was the case i wouldn't bother

You need a personal import which means that you owned the car for a specified period of time in Japan and then you are able to import it. Unless you are an English teacher or regularly do business in Japan, it's hard to do.

it says that they can import japanese cars for you, they have like links to yahoo japan auctions etc. where u can auction and by cars?
is it a scam or some catch to it?

You can 'import' any car you want to some degree, but having this car registered is another story....

Many companies out there can import any car through their contacts....such as a cams licence to import cars for 'race' purposes!

So, no they're not scammers, and really mate, if it were financially viable and easily done, there would be many here that would have done it!

theres a few import guys around, id recommend j-spec or ironchefimports, cause alot of ppl have gone through em an have had really happy results.....

with regards to ej1, personal imports only.... unless u really want one, they can source you a ej1, from a local seller in japan, as such with ek9's, but thats quite alot of hassle just to get one little ej1 into the country, an truthfully, not many places would do that much work to get that car here...

stick to cars on the SEV list, save u the headaches if ur looking for imports

IMHO, i wouldnt touch a ej1 for imports, theres HEAPS of other imports u can go for, which are faster, better handling etc etc.....sure it mite be cheaper, total cost = 8,800 landed an complied, but in no such instance will any importer import this, as the car is too much of a low value

any car that will cost more than 10k is ok, as they can still make profit from it, selling it to you an getting it from the seller from japan, AND theres more to importing cars than just sayin, i want this car cause its jdm yo, etc etc....consider other costs an all..... My best advice to you my friend, jump onto J-spec an ironchefimports or so, it will be much clearer

To keep the Australian automobile market safe from international competition (importing) the importation laws were changed a few years ago to prevent people from importing and registering a car from overseas from which we already have an Australian delivered equivalent or similar model.

You can import cars to use for parts or non-road use, but other than they you can only really import cars that aren't available in Australia or for which there isn't a similar model.

You can apply to have a car added to the SEVS importation list but it's tricky and your desired car will have to fulfill certain criteria to be eligible for further investigation, and then I believe you need to 'sponsor' the car that you want to have added to SEVS, or at least pay massive importation tax.


So as above it's not worth it
