To keep the Australian automobile market safe from international competition (importing) the importation laws were changed a few years ago to prevent people from importing and registering a car from overseas from which we already have an Australian delivered equivalent or similar model.

You can import cars to use for parts or non-road use, but other than they you can only really import cars that aren't available in Australia or for which there isn't a similar model.

You can apply to have a car added to the SEVS importation list but it's tricky and your desired car will have to fulfill certain criteria to be eligible for further investigation, and then I believe you need to 'sponsor' the car that you want to have added to SEVS, or at least pay massive importation tax.


So as above it's not worth it
