civic with b16b overheating

Start the car with the rad cap off. Let the car warm up to temp and look to see if the coolant is flowing, or just sitting. If it's not circulating then there could be a blockage, or a waterpump issue.

how do i know if the coolant is circulating?

1. Fill your radiator full and overflow to the correct level, keep the radiator cap OFF
2. Put your heater on hot.
3. Start your car and let it idle.
4. Wait.
5. Wait.
6. When your fan kicks in, you will see the coolant level in the radiator drop as thermostat is opening.
7. Wait for the fan to stop.
8. Wait for the fan to start again. (Car still idling)
9. Wait for the fan to stop.
10. Once the fan has stopped for the second time, replace your radiator cap and switch your car off.


p.s. any leaks from your water pump? does your coolant stay green or does it go rusty?

if there is a blockage, where could it be?

The most common place is the radiator.

If it's not there, it could be anywhere.

You could try removing it and having it flow tested.

Get a pressure test for your coolant system.. Also back flush your radiator running water from the bottom of the radiator and letting it spill out from the top..
