Which is exactly my point, the Euro suffers from an same case of narrow price elasticity as the Acura TSX, the base model, prices at low-to-mid-$30k is very good value for money, but the higher spec's, at mid-$40k... isn't. Since it's in competition with the actual European marques.

I currently own a CL9, I test Driven the following cars recently:
Alfa 159 (1.4ltr twin charged thingy)
Skoda Superb 1.8L TSI 7spd DSG
    Citroen C5 2.0 HDI
Accord Euro CU2 Lux (was looking at Navi)

The Accord feels like a Toyota next to this bunch. Disregarding the looks of the cars, the Euro's K24 is essentially 10 yr old technology, funnily enough, Japanese cars were renowned for their low fuel consumption... well the CU2 is the most (un)economical of this bunch, also emits the most Co2 (BTW on the CU2 I tested the engine still "Ping"s)

    [start rant]
I dunno what Honda was doing for the last 5 years, VW is already on their 2nd Generation of TSI engines and DSG gearboxes. Fiat group has their own twin charged engines and DSG boxes, even Ford has DSG's now.

Honda is still one of the most joyous handling wise (Alfa 159 takes crown on that... SOOOOO good... even if i cant drive manual for S***). But seriously, what was Honda doing for the last 5 years? For the R&D money they blown on that stupid flop of a "Legend" and that "SH-AWD" (SH for "Super-Handling"...) they would've had their own range of high efficiency small displacement engines and Dual-clutch gearboxes.

Are the people who gave us the glorious VTEC now too busy charging existing owners $200 for door actuators than doing some R&D?

A Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI (118KW) can outrun a Euro on a straight line... While drinking 30% less petrol on the Urban Cycle (9.6L/100km vs. 12.3L/100km) WHILE being a full size car?

Time really had moved on... At least for the $40k plus market.

Yes you can, theres AT LEAST a $10% margin from the dealers (I suspect more for Japanese brands).
$44,465 Driveway is the RRP for Euro Auto Lux with Metalic Paint.

Haggle for $40k. Dont pay anymore, because a facelift is coming.

Keep haggling.... SHOW THEM NO MERCY!

They'll screw you down the road with parts and services regardless whether you are nice or not.
And the midlife update means your Honda's resale will take a nosedive cause you are still the pre-facelift.

Thanks guys. I will let you guys know how I go this weekend.

What is your best haggling "strategy"?

start with low price, stay cool, ready to wake away when they reach what you are willing to pay...?

Tell them 30. walk away if they say "cant do better than 41" or some other BS like that.
then go to another dealer... tell them you're willing to put deposit down for 39. Today.

PS: dont use www.discountnewcars.com.au it's not a car broking service. it's merely a dealer advertisement platform.

    Hondalink,

Another advise, just politely walk away if the dealer not ready to do the price you want..

Makesure you list the accessories you wanted before start negotiating. After you done deal/sign the contract and decided to go with any accessories, they will try to give you full price for accessories.

Otehr thing is makesure you stay firm when they try to convince you to get paint protection. They try to tell you rust underguard protection. Just when i try to inquire about surface rust on exhaust pipe(i found out the surface rust after 6months of usage is normal and rust was not there at all when i bought my car, as before i picked the car, i look underneeth of the car carefully as well), service guy at my dealer told me the car underneeth already comes with rust protection, except exhust pipe.
I wonder why customer service people at dealership asking 1000+ for rust underguard protection if the car underneeth is already been protected with rust protection...

    GOod luck

My family member and I bought 2 Euros in end 2010.

33K for Std Euro (Black) with Tint, Mat, Bluetooth & luggage tray in Dec 2010.
40.5K for Lux Euro (Black) with Tint, Mat & Bluetooth in Nov 2010.

So figure out what price you want to pay in Jan/Feb Sales....

Of course, the duration of haggling and waiting for answer from dealer took around 1 week+ to get it done.

Always walk away at first visit with all the accessories you want in the quote and compare with other dealers.

    That was my experiences.

    Good Luck!

I just bought an Auto Euro base model for $35,000 with Leather Seat upgrade, Tint, Mat and Rear Parking Sensor. Does this sound decent? Delivery is within next 2 weeks.

The K24 is fine but the 5-speed autobox is ancient.

The car is heavy, and bigger than CL9 on exterior dimensions. But its still the same cramp interior.

More power than the CL9 but slower.

On the outside, it's very subjective if it looks better than CL9. The changes look deliberate and whether they contribute to a better look is arguable.

The only improvement that I can agree is CU2 has better interior. The dash looks great.

No, I won't be looking at the CU2 to replace my CL9 when the time comes
