Talking Finally - The wait was worth it

    Hi all

Been a long time member, also with Club ITR.

Used to own a NHB DC2 Type R and loved the engaging drive the car offered.
I loved that despite it being a FWD, it handled so well especially with that LSD!
The light weight of the car also added to the excitement - and when the Mugen airbox went on, the sound was orgasmic!

Switched to the new hatch WRX and although was much more powerful, did not offer the same level of engagement. (was pretty sloppy I thought for a sports car) No emotion stirred in me with it - ended up taking it for a long drive to Broken Hill for camping, but then sold just after 6 months.

Finally made the ultimate switch back to what has been my favourite Honda - the S2000

    > Double Wishbone suspension front and rear
    > Engine behind the front wheels
    > 50:50 weight distribution
    > LSD
    > 9000rpm engine
    > One of the closest shifting gearboxes in the world

The list goes on... But im sure all you guys probably know!

Took me a while to find a nice clean one - had to fly to melbourne and pick up a 99 AP1 with 49Km's on the clock. One owner!

Silverstone with red interior. Completely Stock!

After being with the car for a month I can say that the feeling of real driving is back. And taking the roof off adds to the pleasure!

Thanks for reading! And look forward to sharing my modding experiences with you!

So far I have done/had done:

    > Re-toque axle nuts
    > Re-grease gear lever
    > Tighten Throttle Cable
    > Clutch Fluid
    > MTF
    > Wedged some cut up business cards in the side of the soft top clips to stop them rattling
    > Gutten the Airbox and blocked off resonator for that sound

    Plans include:

    > Acquiring some SO2 Tyres
    > Clear side indicators
    > Personalised plates (I hate the ugly yellow ones the RTA gave me)
    > Spoon/Mugen Air Filter
    > Professional Injector Clean (Have heard it gives a boost in power)
    > Brakes
    > Sound system (the stock one is seriously crap!)

Oh and also - the clutch buzz is pretty annoying, but the clutch feels like it has plenty of bite on it.

    congrats!

with the tyres, screw the SO2's - I don't even think the S2000 spec ones are made anymore. there's plenty better out there anyway.

sorry to re-post, but with 50,000km's on the clock i dont see any performance increase coming from cleaning the injectors anyway.

Congrats on the car to =)

Thanks for all the comments guys!

From what I have read the SO2 is such a high performance tyre for the car with a wider tread than actually stated and also stiff sidewalls. Super soft and compliments the car really well.

I am in the process of acquiring a set from the tirerack.com but shipping is the killer.

    Hi Brendan

    How is this the case?

My local Honda dealer offered to have it done but was thinking about doing it at my mates shop who removes them and puts them on a machine which flows them and dips them in an ultrasonic bath...

I would assume in a car that is over 11 years old that there would be some benefit in having it done?

Be careful. there are two types of SO2 tyres - one designed for the S2000 and one designed for the Boxster.

As far as I know the S2000 SO2's aren't made anymore. They haven't been used as OEM S2000 tyres in ages (I think they switched to the RE050 on the AP2?).

Tyres are personal preference. Personally I reckon there's gonna be stuff out there that's better than a 10 year old design!

Actually there were many different types of S02s.

The ones designed for the S2000 had part numbers ending in 89w and 92w (IIRC).

If you're not getting these then there is little point in ordering S02s.

    Hi Mate

Thanks for this info - I checked with them and they confirmed the part numbers!

    Cheers!

    Thumbs up

In reply to your soft top rattling...

Just so you know, this has been discussed before. see - http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthr...I-retention-it

This will give you some idea of the replacement procedure which will fix the rattle and wind noise!
