Installing side mirrors

I just bought some convex side mirrors and i want to replace the flat ones.


I'd rather not break the old ones as that would amount to 14 years bad luck... and i'd rather keep them as spares anyway.

Any recommendations on how to remove the old ones as well as install the new ones? Anyone have any experiences with this?
