What you said was true about the lower final drive, but I just wanted to mention all options.
if you can live with it then go for it hehe I too almost changed my FD to a 5.1 when i did my clutch/lsd recently but decided not to as i would probably regret it when the engine becomes more powerful, also 1st gear would become almost useless.

For the op's budget there isnt much you can do for significant gains but a CAI and nice exhaust will free it up and a well matched system will sound great
