Screwing OEM top hats onto Aftermarket Coilovers

    Hey guys,

as you may know some aftermarket coilovers requires you to use the OEM top hats to install them into your car.
However, when you place the top hats on, how do you know how much to screw the them to your coilover?
I read somewhere that you may need a spring compressor or something? I don't really know, but any input on this would be great

    Thanks

it would be easier if you had a spring compressor but what you can do is just lower the spring pearch on the coils all the way to the bottom so the spring drops then pop the top hat on and screw it on.

Or you can just put the top hat on, force it down with the spring and get your friend to quickly screw the nut on top, then tighten.

    When she says stop?

The thread at the end of the rod is finite, so it will tighten up when you do up the bolt til the end.

Torque spec for that nut is only 29.4 Nm. So I wouldn't use a rattle gun.

    You'll know when it's tight.

And no, using OEM top hats doesn't make it lower. That's what the adjustable perches are for.
