Looks like you have been busy ekx105 lol, Very nice mods, should be a clean ek when its done.

Started painting my valve cover black then decided to paint my CAI pipe black too, dunno why, i was tired and i could of been tripping on paint fumes from painting the valve cover, i stupidly forgot to open the windows in the garage lol. anyway i ran out of paint so i gotta go for a trip when the shops open to get more paint so i can finish them off. should have pics up tomorrow or monday of the finished products installed back on the ek.

Changed rear engine mount and thermostat on my EK4

So it seems car wasn't really running a thermostat at all notice in pic thermostat was modified to allow coolant to flow constantly (eg they cut off the bottom bit) which is why my car took forever to warm up. But now with new thermostat installed I've got a problem. Car warms up fine, temp needle sits around the 50% mark and even when I drive it around it stays on the 50% mark but as soon as I hit VTEC the temp needle starts to surge all the way up nearly to the HOT bar!! and will only come back down when I stop booting it and drove normally for a min or so, I assume temp drop is due to thermostat finally opening. I know thermostat is working because bottom hose is warm, And I've also checked cooling fan works and comes on when it's supposed to.

Anyone have this problem before? Should I try a lower temp thermostat or is the problem elsewhere. Car never over heated before I changed from non existent thermostat to a CPC thermostat rated at 82 degrees C

^^^ did you bleed the cooling system of air after you changed your thermostat?

Yeah I did so its definitely not air in the cooling system,

Today I drove the car for about 15 mins changing gear well before 5500rpm (not going into VTEC) and not once did it show signs of overheating I thought hmmm maybe problem fixed it self over night

but at the end of the drive I hit VTEC in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears and surely temp gauge started rising all the way 2 bars from HOT! and would only go back down after i continued to drive normally for 2-3 mins

I'm stumped and lost for ideas, its as if the car heats up dramatically during VTEC and the thermostat isn't opening in time to allow the hot coolant in the engine to circulate back to the radiator.

This obviously wasn't a problem for the "constant flowing back yard modified" thermostat. Because before I changed it, I'd drive the car hard on VTEC and not have any signs of needle movement, this is because the hot coolant would constantly be cycled through the radiator which is why car took forever to warm up!

Decided to get rid of my hubcaps and spray my steelies with the rattle can.

Heres some pics from my iPhone. Will probably finish the last wheel tomorrow and probably put another coat of paint on. I'll put better pics up too with the car under the sun. Hopefully

Nice one, i meant what type of paint tho sorry lol, like was it just normal spray paint or something specific? Just wondering as i have no idea about painting and what paint to use so i used engine enamel and it seems to be holding up well so far lol but if there is something better to use ill give that a go next time

Peeled the "F5 Fujita" vinyl off my cai after the paint had dried, seems to of come up all right considering its my first time laying something under paint, just need to wipe off the adhesive left by the vinyl and shes ready to go back on the EK.
