I wouldn't but a VW. They might have good engineering, but shitty build quality. A mate bought a brand new passat wagon, within a month, it had condensation in the headlights, rattles under the dash, and 2 broken switches.

That's bullshit.

vw might seem good on the spec sheet
but they are unreliable as f*ck. look at their premature dsg gearbox failures on the golfs...

I don't think we'll get the Euro wagon in OZ. Honda OZ probably thinks that the Odyssey fits the bill. After all, it's really a station wagon and not a so called 'people mover'. North America gets a different version of the Odyssey (http://automobiles.honda.com/odyssey/) that is a people mover and not a station wagon.

True. Lots of mentions about this endemic problem with the DSG. Never gets a mention in the motoring magazines that continue to award VW with car of the year.
As with Volvo, VW owners fit a certain 'look at me' profile. Not so with Euro owners that come from different backgrounds.

our family has been driving VW for the last 10 years. A Passat, my GTI and a Tiguan. none of them have any problem except for the electric park brake on the Tiguan which was fixed after a quick trip to the dealer. we also have friends owning a few more Golf GTI, Polo GTI, Golf R32, Golf R, Golf diesel, 2 more Tiguans even a R50. there are manauls, DSGs, Tiptronics and none of us had any major issue. a few of my fd's cars are moded too.
i personally dont think there are many major quality issues with VWs. there will always be problems on some cars but it applies to every manufacturers.
