not a whole lot better - think, sitting in traffic, or at traffic light, not gonna be a whole lot of cold moving air into you inlet. PLUS, there is a hell of a lot more crap in the air down low near the road - you'll end up with all sorts of crap in your filter. The BEST way is to make up a cold air box, and enlarge the standard air inlet from the bumper to the airbox. That how we do it on the Skyline, and that works the best.

After the filter, try to keep the pipework as straight as possible, as any bends add to the restriction. This is why I am a fan of the standard plastic inlet pipes, as they are flexible and have few bends.
