    KA9 Legend HU install questions

Im tempted to install one of these in my legend.

I also intend to use the parking brake bypass

Now my question are besides having to chop up my radio and then having to cut my dash to fit the double din, what do i need to be aware of wiring wise.

I tend to just get a harness that will fit my honda, and match up the wires. However, I understand there is an amp in my car that I would need to bypass. How do I do that? As I intend to keep my stock speakers and not install anything else to it.

Also can I keep my stock CD stacker and somehow will the Sony accept the stacker? (in case my old man drives the car and wants to listen to his tunes on CD).

    uh, few things:
    a) you'd want to wire the amp to work with your headunit, unless you want to re wire all the speakers, have them play a lot quieter and such. Seriously, you should be able to get an adaptor to chuck in there (I dunno if the ka9 has an iso harness or not, but if it does, you can get an iso to sony dvd harness probably)
    b) brake bypasses are illegal in australia. If you're caught watching a dvd whilst driving, you'll be fined. Do you really need to watch stuff whilst you drive?
    c) You'd be much better getting something like a single din flip out. kenwood has a decent one. saves you chopping the dash out. Means you can sell the car with a standard unit in it, and not have to sell it with a 7inch thing in it.
    d) the review on that headunit seemed pretty terrible.. read it over before you try it... doesn't seem great..
    e) you could probably attach the stacker to it, but I don't know. Should be able to get an aftermarket one to replace it if the stock one doesn't work. eh.

    thanks for your insight.

    a) i guess, its time for me to disassemble my dash and take a peek behind the radio to see what plugs are available for me.
    b) i thought it was just a safety feature (for the idiots amongst us). im not planning to watch dvd's on the run, maybe for showing off/super bored passengers. didnt know it was illegal.
    c) will look into the flip out 1-din units. i guess, i would still have to chop the dash out either way, unless i have a spare $320 for one of the dash kits i found on google.
    d) will look into this. only reason why i looked at sony was because i could import one from HK that could support chinese encoding.
    e) if i lose the stacker, i guess ill just make a usb drive for my old man with all the songs he listens to, less mucking about i guess.

Ah, right, after seeing a picture, I see what you mean by cutting out the dash... inbuilt players suck >.>
I suppose then a 2din would be fine... I'd say just have a look around for one that works well... changes songs at a decent speed, has decent touch sensors or whatever...
    but hmm.. Sucks a bit.
But yes, have a shop for 2din units or single din flip outs, see what's good, preferably test some out if you can. And then, yeah... I honestly have no idea about the dash part, but yeah, from what I can tell, removing the player from the back and cutting a hole and putting a 2din in should work... Might just be without mounting holes perhaps...

But yes, I honestly couldn't tell you much more than that :/

Hi. I am a fellow ka9 legend owner. I installed a double din by cutting the radio cassette out of the dash. It does come apart an you have to find a way to then mount the trim as when you cut the radio out its what was holding the face plate on so what I did was completely disassembled the radio and then cut the top out of the cage and then mounted my double din Inside of the old radios metal casing. Confusing I know but I saw no other way of doing it lol

Also our Australian cars do not have an amp. They use a alpine system instead of the Bose system that the US get so you can just use a normal Honda adapter harness ad wire up the wires accordingly.

Hit me up for more info if you need glad to see the modding of the legend is still slightly alive lol

Thanks Travis for your input. As I am still undecided about what model to get (many have advised against the sony!) I have not taken apart my dash yet.

I have always thought that japanese cars used brackets to mount the radio instead of cages.

nice to know that the aussie versions didnt have an amp (australian KA9 was a seriously dumbed down version of the US/JDM)

Ahk fair enough. It took me a day to figure out what to do and get everything right lol. Bear in mind you'll need to have a trim going around the face of your new double din as the stock radio has a larger span on the face of the dash.

The radio is mounte by brackets and by cage Ment the metal casing of the stock radio which I had cut up into pieces to be able to mount the new double din to the stock dash faceplate.

i hate with a passion custom audio installs, its annoying, and plenty of dicking about. sadly it seems like that is the way for most manufacturers.

i intend on fixing my instrument cluster lights first, and taking the opportunity to take a peek behind the radio panel.
