Actually that b18c5 damage couldve been valve float caused by boost on stock valve springs. On hondatech there are threads about high boost pressure holding the valves open for too long.

The stock limiter is there to keep the engine safe, you didn't hit fuel cut I take it?

Dude i took my b20vtec which as known as a weak bastard motor to 9800rpm once testing out to see if it had the limiter working.... it didnt lol
was perfectly fine and pulled 125kw atw straight after on the dyno lol
I have done this in my mums corolla wen i was on my L's execpt i didnt change up straight away lol it kept bouncing off the rev limiter and the car still works. But as everyone said the type r is made to hit the rev limiter, you shouldnt worry.
