Thread: Cam duration

    Cam duration

    Hi guys,

I was (out of curiosity) checking different cam specs etc, and thought that the CTR/ITR 235/240 duration was relatively short in comparison to other high output NA motors.
Is this just a discrepancy in how the duration is measured, or do VTEC motors indeed run relatively short duration cams?

    Thanks

For example the MIVEC motors I think have something closer to 300 degrees duration?
Also the VVTi-L from the Sportivo Corolla or Celica:
    High Cam 292° 11.2mm 276° 10.0mm

There absolute numbers. Not @ 1mm lift. Like buddy club 3+ there advertised @ 296, but @ 1mm lift their only 250 duration.

In addition, may want to refer to the following:

From page 7/155 of the pdf file, lists cam specs for 4G92, 93, and 94:

I think I posted the link to the camshaft calculator somewhere before, but here it is again:

Have a look at the LSA and IVCE factors of a camshaft. I think you'll find it to be much more informative than durations numbers.

The actual profile ie how quickly/slowly the valve opens and closes, and also the overlap has a big effect on things
