it all depends on how much smoke, when it comes out, and how much oil you lose. WOT there will be some, but if it's bad, and your always topping off the oil, it's prob. the rings going. If you decelerate and get a huge puff of smoke it's valve seals/seats or guides.

All that fuel has to released somewhere too? May exhaust emissions?

it needs to be balanced with the air that is used by the engine too,

engines dont run on only fuel, they run on air and fuel.

    it needs to be balanced.

too much fuel for the amount air = rich

too much air for the amount of fuel = lean

soooo, when you modify the car with air flow improvments like intake, headers and exhaust, you increase the 'air amount' so the car runs lean...

the ECU computer senses this and over time adjusts the 'fuel amount' to compensate,

in most cases the ECU computer will over compensate with fuel to be 'safe' and this leads to problems as described.

lean to a point = more power though, but you have to worry about detination.

if u doubt it is oil, then do a compress test (leak test and oil test).

if it is black smoke then this is prob ok
If bluey grey or white smoke then u got troubles...

Black smoke indicates excess fuel in combustion chamber, whick is ok to a point.
Side affects - loss of power, lots of soot, increase fuel consumption,

Blue smoke indicates there is a OIL leak sumwhere around combustion chamber ie vavle stem seals, piston rings etc. EXPENSIVE

White smoke is caused by coolant being present in combustion chamber, normally caused leaking head gasket
I would be guessin in saying when vtec ingages, honda would program ecu to deliver more fuel, prob more than what is needed so detonation does not occur, meaning when vtecing a little black smoke prob means ur engine is runnin safe

correct me if i am wrong. i think black smoke means the fuel is too rich, white smoke means burn oil and blue smoke means coolent leak into the engine.
