For anyone who wants to keep it legal, yet improve light output , I recommend Philips HIR 2. Can get them cheap on Amazon (about $35-40 a pair shipped - they are like more than double that in Aus). They are very popular on US forums and apparently the best upgrade you can get for halogen reflectors thats still legal and wont produce glare. Colour is not true white, definitely more on the yellow spectrum but noticeably more white than stock.

My dads accord with stock halogen in stock housing

Mine with HIR2 halogen in stock housing

Damn that's bright! Kinda looks like Osram Nightbreakers... how would these Phillips compare? I've got a poverty-spec CU2 without xenons and I'd love to get more light out of the stock projectors without having to use a xenon kit.
