Even if all the above checked out, its still a gamble as different in person vs pics. The gamble being air fair and time. Have to be prepared to lose both.

To say the seller made him fly out is a bit much. But yes of course seller is still a douche and sucks op had to go through it.
Yeah, but the guy would have known that his car wouldn't pass an inspection by a panel beater, and said to them "honestly, it may not hold up to inspection". By saying "yes, it's worth flying over for", he lied to them, and that lie swayed their decision to fly over. He didn't force them to, but he certainly influenced them to do so.

No I agree with you, but what I said still applies imo. The seller was wrong and immoral, but no one 'made him' go as said before. He chose to on his own merit by trusting the sellers words, the 'too good to be true price' and the limited amount of objective info that he was given. There's nothing wrong with asking for a lot of detailed pics, explanations on price, and quizzing them till they are sick, especially when flying over!

I have a fair idea about cars and did question the guy as well as i could.

as mentioned, I also stated that we had panel beating experience and would tell straight away if any accidents, he confirmed there had been none at all and to fly down.

We didn't just fly down after seeing the carsales ad, this was a 3-4 day question/negotiation process to make sure we had no surprises. But the surprises were ridiculous

I am only posting this thread to warn others who are interested in this specific vehicle.

What I am thinking is, how can u seriously get a legit dc5r for $12k, let alone one in CW.

I mean, thanks for sharing to warn others, but commonsense would tell you there is no way you can get a clean CW dc5r for $12k

Normally, when someone says there's going to be a panel beater coming and there's no way that you could lie about it, you'd think they would not bother trying to sell the car to you, let alone make people fly interstate... And if you didn't negotiate prior, the car wasn't priced at 12k anyway so the OP may have saved a few people from checking out the car.

Yes, it was cheap, but sometimes people have money issues and need to sell a car quickly to clear bills, debts, or whatever and get desperate to sell. I think if I was the OP and the seller sounded fairly honest, I would go check out the car as well (and I would have been just as pissed).
