    Cam Pulleys

    hey all, i noticed my teggy isnt running as well as my previous one, when i replaced the gasket in my rocket cover i noticed that the cam gears wernt lined up as they should be, for example the right hand side pulley had "Up" facing completing vertical, but the left pulley had "Up" facing almost 90 degrees to the left. I did some research and i heard both cam gears had to have "Up" facing completely up.

    I was wanting to readjust it, just wanted to know i havent really done anything like this before, i heard its pretty much like changing the timing belt, but im not sure. I rang up a mechanic and got told $290. Its a B18C2.

    You will need to take off the timing belt and re adjust that gear.

    Yeah sounds like the timing is whacked out bad. Will make the car sound and drive like crap, bad power delivery, engine runs rough etc.

    Where are you located?

    Sydney, but the cars not running crap, that's why im confused, it should be running horribly for what i saw on the gears, i only noticed the difference in power because my old VtiR went a bit harder and that was stock aswell.

    What's not stock about your current engine?

    this one had a catback on it, but i put it back to stock.

    Ok hang on a sec, so you are saying that there is 90 degrees difference between the angle of the intake cam and the angle of the exhaust cam??

    I don't see how it's possible that the engine could even rotate with that much difference. That would mean that one cam is in in a completely different phase of the firing cycle to the other. meaning piston to valve contact.

    maybe take a pic of the gears when the TDC mark on the Crank pulley is aligned with the mark on the timing cover with the one cam gear arrow you speak of pointing up, and post it here. Definitely before you go to get the belt changed or try to adjust it.

    There's no way the car would run if 1 cam was 90 degrees out of phase. They are a pig if you get the timing one tooth (what, six degrees?) wrong and run like a bucket of bolts. Post up a pic.
