    Brakes Squeel

    Hey all,

MY brakes are squeels BUT only when i brake in reverse and only when i LIGHTLY apply the brakes (ie if i actually need to slow down for a light, they wont squeel)

Does this mean the pads are done for OR could there be sumtin in there?
Is there any way to visually check the condiditton of the pads, like are there markers etc?

What are the price of OEM pads? Or should i just go to repco and buy their pads, if my brakes do need replacing. Strret use only

I just replaced mine. They were making sounds under very light pressure. The bendix oem replacements from autobarn were about $40 a pair I think. I got some slightly heavier duty ones for $60.

what sort of squeal? a high pitched squeal isn't normally a problem. it can just be dusty pads or discs.

Generally if the pads wear thin, you'll hear a VERY audible sound, almost like a prolonged honk coming from the affected wheel whenever breaking

Brakes squeels with 'still good' pads and brake discs is still an engineering problem no one able to solve. Heard from a lecturer from uni specialiased in vibration....

sounds like your pads are worn down to the squeelers.

they 1st start to squeel in revers.

just dont leave your pad on for too long or you prob. need to machine your rotors to get rid of the grooves made by the needle on the pad that indicates your pad are wearing out.

the squeelers dont hammer the rotors, there made of a softer metal. very rare if you have seen it before.
