    Review - Mugen Twin Loop Exhaust - DC2R

    First of all i'd like to send a thanks out to Zi and the JDM Yard guys for supplying me the goods. Great friendly service with professional advice. I highly recommend

    Picking up this exhaust at first, i wasnt really sure what i was getting myself into other than the expensive price tag it came with. After getting it home looking at the quality of the zorst i could already see why it cost so much. The attention to detail the exhaust is 2nd to none. All welds, bends and piping are of very high quality and surprisingly light to pick up.









    Getting the zorst fitted, i took it down to fussy motorsports with my brother in another car who transported the zorst since i didnt want to get the interior in my [R] damaged nor the zorst in transit. Speaking with Tan (workshop owner) he fitted an aftermarket hi-flow cat. As we all know that the audm cat on the type r is too long for theses jdm aftermarket zorsts. This was a better option as i didnt want to chop off the b-pipe to suite the audm cat but aswell i could easily replace the the OEM exhaust system with the audm cat if i had to sell the car and the mugen zorst separately with the hiflow cat. A bonus for the new owner if it ever happens.

    After the zorst was fitted Tan kindly showed me what he had done. A very neat and professional job. I was quite impressed with the overall work performed. The muffler and the b-pipe all fit in nicely with the new cat. although with the large resonator on the b-pipe i could see it hanging quite low due to its size. Luckily my car isnt lowered so it still has good clearance. But i would kick myself if i did end up scratching it.

    Loading the stock zorst back into the car my brother drove, already as soon as picked up the stock zorst ther was huge weight difference between the stock system and the mugen one.
    Using my arms as a scale, it would safe to say that Mugen b-pipe was probably close to half the weight of the stock one when comparing. The stock muffler was aswell heavier than the mugen muffler even with the extra piping for the 2nd loop.
    It may seem that i am exagerating a bit about the weight but the difference is very noticable.
    I guess i started to understand why this exhaust had such a high price tag along with its 'branded' name.

    The Test Drive:
    With all the reviews i've heard about this exhaust, it was about time i experienced my own, as the zorst was still quite new and not broken in, i couldnt really see if there were any advantages as of yet. Driving the car normally i could already see that there wasnt much a big difference in sound other than a distinct hum or buzz in the background when gearing down or accellerating up before vtec cut in point. What was great about this zorst was that there was no in-car droning when cruising and that i could easily still enjoy listening to my tunes in the car or talk to the passenger easily without having to shout over the noise from the muffler.

    Taking the car for a good 'fang' with WOT on some particular roads i could easily see an improvement in performance across the whole rev range, from down low, to mid range to top end. The free flowing nature of the zorst allowed the rpm needle meet redline with ease where the response from the engine felt alot smoother too. The car seemed to want to rev harder during vtec land and seemed to do it with ease with no hesitation. But of course the use of a butt dyno isnt the best way to measure a difference in performance but a proper dyno run is on the 'to do' list when i get a chance.

    Sound wise the exhaust isnt a loud exhaust to attract attention, i could easily hear the engine more than the exhaust when in vtec. As i said, the last thing i wanted was a droning exhaust in the car and why this was the perfect choice for me. On idle you could hear a low hum from the zorst aswell but nothing overpowering and annoying.

    I would personally recommend this zorst to people who dont like the overpowering droning noise in the cabin of there cars as it would be heaps irritating especially driving home after a big night on the highway. The performance gains made by this zorst can be felt. Although coming at a hefty price it is something to consider where other zorsts like the fujitsubo range can be purchased with the same amount of gain but with more noise (which of course sounds cool from what others have said) and a cheaper price with similar build quality. I guess it comes down to personal preference really on whats more important.

    its definitely a quieter exhaust than most, butcan i just ask if u got an intake or extractor yet?> i have the same exhaust (genuine) and its focking loud nowdays

    still using stock headers at the moment. but will hopefully replace those with something different.

    yes i do have an intake aswell on the car, im in the middle of posting a review about it aswell.

    To be honest with you im not exactly sure.

    These are exhaust extracts for a dc5r, the difference for the mugen (2nd clip) is quite similar. Overall, the exhaust is not very loud and is just a bit louder than stock.
