    in general

    15" > 195/50-15
    16" > 195/45-16
    17" > 205/40-17

for your typical 6.5-7" wide wheel, any wider you would need to reconsider the tyre size

To compare tyres sizes go to:

    http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
    OR
    http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html

But wheel offset is also v.important to clear brakes and body or suspension components. If you do alter the wheels/tyres so speedo is out by more than about 2% you run risk of fines. There is a black box which will allow you to adjust speedo if the input is digital - go to www.autospeed.com.au and search site.

i got 205/45/16 now..and there's still a big gap left..so i dont think 17 would scratch the plastic especially if u dunt plan on lowering
