oem copy itr pistons for rebuild question...

    Hey guys..

Anyone have experience using the oem itr piston copies that are available online.. Such as RS machine, Inline four or Nippon racing..

They all have oem equivalent of ITR pistons..(USDM spec) and they are very cheap which makes it tempting to purchase. $250 inc rings compared to $550 for OEM.

My b18c2 shat itself recently.. Early diagnosis indicates bearing failure.. And I'm planning on rebuilding the motor myself using oem bearings, rings and ITR pistons for a bump in compression.

The research so far suggest that they seem to work fine.. But if anyone has anything to add I wanna hear it.

So long as the pistons are measured before the bores are honed (i.e. honed to match actual piston size) you should be fine - this is good practice for any engine. I have installed one set of replicas about a year ago for a customer on a budget build, and no complaints. you can get them locally for that sort of price by the way. PM for details.

I've heard good things about RS machines. They are quite popular in the US.

It may be wise to look at doing a few other mild upgrades like cams if you are bumping up the compression from 10:1 to 11:1, as you may need a tune in the end anyway.

Yeah I might need to bore .25mm or .5mm oversize depending on the piston size and current bore situation.
Did the pistons you use for your customer weigh the same??

And yeah at a minimum ill get itr cams but if got the cash ill do the head as well with better cams and everything else.

Also can I run stock ecu with a bump in compression?? Or will it need a tune? Obviously tune will be better but will it work without one?
