    Where to get a DC2R gearbox w/ LSD

    Hi Guys. First post and new the Honda scene so sorry if I am a bit noob :/ Basically my gearbox is apparently rooted and i'm going to switch it out to a DC2R gearbox. From what I have read it should be interchangeable with my b18c2?

    I also plan to put in a lightened flywheel and heavy duty clutch whilst I am at it. Basically where can I even get the gearbox? I live in Hornsby in Sydney does anyone know of anyone near by? also any suggestions for the flywheel and clucth?

    Same gearbox from what I've read. One has lsd, one doesn't. Ratios might be slightly different, but

    yea its interchangeable and dc2r is much better gearbox as well.

    Odd, I thought s80 and y80 were the b18c boxes and same boxes for c2 depending on obd1 or obd2.
    Unless wiki lied to me (not uncommon) unless it's made up of different things

    There are many differences internally, but both will bolt straight up. The main thing is the ratios and gear spacing. The OEM final drives are not interchangeable without changing 1st gear assembly, spacer piece etc. too. MFactory make ones that drop straight in though. The other thing is there are tapered bearings on the diff in the Y80, which make it harder for a backyarder to set up correctly unless they've invested in a preload measurement wrench. This is particularly important when you fit a new LSD or something - it's very unlikely the old shims will work. S80s have enclosed ball races on the diff and are easier to space correctly with a set of feeler gauges.

    The S80 ratios are "better" in the sense that they are closer, but this is not always a good thing depending on application. Boost + late S80 gearbox = no traction. All S80 gearboxes are absolutely wrecked by now and require a rebuild. Bear in mind the last one was built 12 years ago. The mind boggles why people would buy them for the amount of money they do second hand.

    There are no cheap options really. Rebuild yours: bearings and seals $329, new LSD $800-1300 approx, final drive of choice $700-900 approx, synchros and sleeves $670. Then add labour. Otherwise buy an S80 and do bearings, synchros and sleeves. You'd come out pretty close either way.

    Thanks for the help guys! Must admit I am pretty impressed with the Oz Honda community already with your speedy responses!

    Like I said I am a complete rookie so please forgive me if I am misinterpreting or not understanding something :/
    So basically what is involved with the switch over? I understand the gearboxes are interchangeable but it was mentioned by chez that the final drives are not? I am just unsure of exactly what is involved in the process of switching over gearboxes. Aside from the dc2r gearbox what other parts do I need to acquire and which parts am I switching out?

    I have also been approached by someone trying to sell me their dc2r gearbox which they bought 5 years ago brand new and has only done 2000 kms. He is asking for 2.2k for it. Is this a fair price? I have also got a quote from Sydney Auto dismantlers for $1300 though i still need to get more details. Aside from confirming that it does have a LSD is there anything else i should be looking out for?

    Obviously I am trying not to mess this up as it is a lot of money!

    Before you jump in the deep end maybe find out whats exactly wrong with your current gbox

    if youre not exactly sure of the problem could you describe the symptoms as it might be a common issue and fix

    It's straight swap. They were saying the final drive is hard to change if you want to change them. Which you don't need to swap, unless you want to change how low it revs in a high gear, more or less.

    As ekvtir-t said, tell them what it's doing first, just in case it's an easy fix.

    Basically I just want to clarify something. Feel free to educate me as I am a noob. So with my b18c2 I have a FD of 4.4. If I put in the dc2r gearbox will I then have the FD of the type r at 4.785?

    Basically that is all I want. To have the LSD and have the type r gear ratios. If I am completely wrong can you please tell me exactly what I need to do in order to achieve that.

    Ps with my gearbox I apparently have melted faces of my synchros and or sleeves but I will recheck that. I have decided that if o am going to put money on I might as well upgrade aye.
