Hey guys recently I have noticed my dc5 has been shaking when Accelerating over 80km/hr. Doesn't do it if u don't accelerate. I've spoken to a few honda experts and they said it's one of the inner CV joints or maybe both. common problem apparently on dc5, ep3 and accords. I tried looking online for a build thread on how to replace the whole drive shaft on a dc5 but I couldn't find anything. Does anyone have step by step instructions on how to change the drive shafts. Thanks
have you confirmed it's shafts before changing them?
I'm pretty sure if you ask around here, we have more information than ur so called honda experts.
have you tried swapping wheels back to front, left to right?
If it was issues with wheels or tyres or alignment, it should vibrate and shake always. Mine only does it when Accelerating at high speeds. (80km+) meaning its the inner cv joints but I have checked all tyres and swapped wheels around and even swapped back to the factory wheels. Still happens.
The inner CV joints need to be replaced. I'm doing the whole drive shaft as its cheaper. I just need a basic guidelines on how to change the drive shafts if this type of information is available on here. Cheers
an issue like "missing hub rings on aftermarket wheels"
will cause shaking above 80km/h
I've got the hub rings on all wheels. I've even put the factory wheels back on to test out and still shakes. It's nothing to do with the wheels in this situation
I would assume its the shaft final thing..... be checking the rotors brake assembly, sussy assembly before saying its the shafts. If any mech has told u its the shaft without a proper inspection he anit no specialist.
If you were to change the shafts yourself...
1. Jack the car up, front will do. Put bricks on the rear wheels and use jackstands...
2. Remove Front wheels.
3. Undo the 36mm bolt from the hub end.
4. Remove Shaft from hub. Slides out. - Use big screwdriver or a crow bar.
5. Drive side you gota remove fromt he immedidate shaft and on passenger side from the box itself, Slides out. Use big screwdriver or a crow bar.
install is the other way around.
Also u can remove immediate shaft and drive shaft together if required. I found this easier. Some times it can rust in there and be a bitch.
If you dont have 36mm socket, go to a proper tool shop. I checked in 3 repcos/supercheap non had in stock waste of time.
I would also remove the kuckle I think its called from the shocks it will free up more space to slide the shafts in and out from the hub.
have you removed driveshafts before?
if you never done it before might be better get someone to do it
need few specialised tools like a punch, 32mm socket if base dc5, 36mm socket if type r, 1m+ breaker bar and ball joint separator
might need mtf fluid incase it leaks
might need new seals if you rip it
need new cotter pins for castle nut lower ball joint
probs around 200 bucks in tools if you never done it before

alignment wont shake always
i had funny toe settings on my prelude a while back, only shook when you took it over 120kph (like overtaking kunts in b16 crx)
maybe you are missing some weights on a wheel
swap back wheels to front see if still got issue or if the issue moves to the rear
