Accord Euro 2004. A/C Air compressor problem.
Hey guys.
I have a metal noise came out when I turn A/C on. Today I took my car to mechanic ( also do car air conditioner ) to check A/C problem, they told me that my A/C air compressor need to be replaced, it cause cracking metal noise ... They give me a quote for job done that is $2500, also i am in ACT. Wow...
After I get home, I re-search on ozhonda, found that some people have same problem with me.
I would like to ask if I bought aftermarket like:

Is it still good enough for 2-3 years. As I am not driving much.

I replaced mine also not long ago, yes genuine honda ones are very expensive and i was quoted 2500 also from honda for new parts.
I can't say if aftermarket ones are any good, but i didn't want to take the chance. I got a re-conditioned unit for $400 odd and got it installed and regased for another $350.
becareful to not to use the aircond whilst you have that metal noise, as it means shards from the compressor are probably flying around in your AC piping and it may cause damage to the condensor or the valves.

I am wondering if you know of preventative maintenance that we can do to avoid problems with our air conditioning system. Fredoops has mentioned that he has changed his refrigerant to hydrocarbon based and not the regular R134a. This double the efficiency of his system. I don't think he had any problem with his system yet.
Some other things I have thought of are:
1. Cleaning (and straightening) the AC condensors regularly (once every couple of years maybe) with something like,

2. Add ceramic based AC oil similar to

3. Use the AC regularly (at least once a month) to keep the seals in good condition (common practice)

Same thing much cheaper and local.
Not really necessary, the PAO oil used in the system is good enough.

Dont forget to change the aircon filter.
PSS: next time when you regas aircon...ask them to replace the shuder (sp?) valves where the gas thing clips on

I was thinking of doing this (cleaning the condenser) without the removal of the bumper as it is quite open at the front of the euro. This may have more significant effect than the evaporator cleaning as it is always bombarded by tar and debris.

i'm thinking of doing both the condenser clean and evaporator "flush" soon.
Except I am taking the front bumper off to do a full proper clean, the spray is a solvent so you really wanna keep it away from the paintworl
However the "evaporator clean" is proving to be tricky, not that its hard to do (it's dead easy) but the cleaning kit is NOT AVAILABLE in Australia, anywhere.
Both Subaru/Toyota have an "Air Con refresher Kit", but not in Aust. I called around to local dealers to no avail, its basically a foaming cleaner kit with a special hose attached that you plug into the evaporator down pipe to "flush" and clean the evaporator.
...... this is great.... not.

You are a brave man Fred. This is the proper way to do it but I am always afraid of breaking the clips especially ones I cannot see. Especially with the bumper where the clips probably could not be replaced. Are you keen in doing a you tube video ("How to clean CL9 AC condenser") to share with the rest of us ?

Yes, I asked the mechanic to replaced the schrader valve (both high and low pressure) on my work car which I bought it from Amazon. They asked me how much it costed me and they were surprised.

That is soo cheap. I am assuming it also include the removal tool.
I think the replacement of Schrader valve should always be done by the mechanics considering its cost and negative reputation avoidence with leaks after refill minimised.
Maybe they want us to come back again as the leak is usually slow.
