Thread: Vti-r clutch

PBR is half the price?? SHITE... that's pretty cheap then. Cos Exedy organic clutch (plate and cover) comes in around 350 to max 400. You telling me PBR is half that again?

I wasn't trying to be smart - I realise yours must be worn out (I'm not stupid). When you said you wanted a "more performance oriented clutch" I automatically interpreted that as you saying you wanted an upgraded clutch.

Performance oriented typically mean more $$$. I have spent way too much money on my cars over the years and am not new to "consumable" parts.

I was all set to upgrade my clutch when it went and the guy at the place I use for clutches said "why?". It made sense since the original never slipped and I am running a stock engine. I replaced it with a OEM equivalent clutch and it has never let me down. Personally i wouldn't bother upgrading the friction material or assembly itself unless I was making enough power to have the stocky slip or was driving it hard enough to make it slip.

FWIW I bought my clutch assembly from Specialised Brake and Clutch. I have good experience with them and they won't sell you something you don't need.

I know what ya mean in regards an uprated clutch being pointless on a stock car....what OEM equivelant did you get installed? how much did it set ya back?

just confirming I have been quoted on a full kit...pressure plate, thrust bearing & cover (or whatever is included in a kit)...the guy assured me it is full kit, ready to be wacked into a car...for $185 (not installed of course)

I have to check but I think my total bill was something like $280 (this was over a year ago). That included surfacing the flywheel, new pressure plate, new clutch disc and new throwout bearing.

I can check my receipts when I get home and confirm.

In my experience with my B16A the stock clutch won't let you down (ie: slip) in normal driving conditions (and I give mine a reasonably hard time).

obviously you're in Sydney, but who installed it? that seems awfully cheap for parts & labour! did they do a good job? was it a franchise chain (you know the ones) that installed it? or your local mechanic....

edit....just read your post where you say who installed it

I wouldn't have a clue what PBR stands for to be honest, but like I have said, I think they might be able to take a fair bit of punishment going on my mates one in his datto...I was referred to Moparts in Croydon, VIC for these....I guess I'll find out in the next week or so what PBR clutches are like as I have one on order to hopefully pick up on Saturday....will get it wacked in next week at some point...I'd try installing it myself, but it isn't the sort of job I want to learn on my own

I totally agree, getting a higher performance clutch which your car don't need is just a waste and it's gonna be more of a bitch to drive. I used to drive a fully modded civic and all it got was a heavy duty.....it didn't start slipping until i got a set of spoon cams and gasket in it......
