if you speak to the americans you say urs is the Civic SI....if they don't know what you are saying quote the model as EM1 (have a look at the tein US site, it says EM1)
in short the
Civic SI = EM1
CTR = EK9
you'd better speak to the americans first b4 the jap

well I know my car is actually made in the US belive it or not ...
it's just rebadged for Australian market as the Civic VTi-R coupe ... but over there in the US like u said it's the Civic Si (have already confirmed this from Clubcivic.com)
so ... you think I should buy parts from US rather than Japan cause I'm more likely to find compatible parts for my car!?!
-
darkcoupe, my honest opinions is use the americans for all your facts findings ...and you have actually answer urself prior..."coz shipping will be cheaper coz jap is closer" and the cost of parts goes up, because it has changed a few hands (jap -> US-> you).....
where a part is on a iffy status, go with the best ur pockets can afford...don't settle for second, remember you have to live with the pain and the aftermath...sometime it may cost a lil, but you pay for something no one will ...and that the price of knowledge and like i say i don't have to tell the world what i know, i can be an empty ass..but i might know something you might not..and who says knowledge is free, get my drift ...
you are the best answer for urself...and in your case with suspension, i don't know why..it could be the make or whatever..the em1's-> i have know of a few personally with some unwanted dreads to live with just by saving a few dollars...
this is what i will do, find out as much from the americans folks...then order it at the local tein authorised dealership(if you show them the money, even its not on the list, i'm sure they can do something abt it..that why they are the authorised resells", coz remember , if tein australia make the mistake, they can honour that mistake(just tell them the model of ur car and leave the rest of the part no to them... )
...else just forget abt this particular model and go for something that has been tried and tested ...i for once like to go away into what ppl has not done esp with new parts from a reputated brand(the newer the better issn't it )..so i could be bias, but least you will have someone to share the responsibilities...that tein Aust.
apart from suspension, most of the other parts that are used for the ek4 are more than likely a bolts-on
g'luck
ps: i know you will love the particular tein that u have chosen, cos you have put in all the extra work into making it work...the only thing is-> if you are prepared to walk thru the door ...if you do get it , take me on a ride sometime<laffz>

Tein Aust ... is there such a thing???
-
ooops my bad, i mean tein authorised dealer in australia....i'm not into tein nor have bought anything locally, but i'm sure someone can point you out to the authorised dealers in australia

ok so I am back ...
Have talked to Tein Japan, Tein US, a Australian distributor (took a while)
Long story short, the Tein Kit from Japan will fit my car, just like the US one. The only main difference is the spring rating, due to the fact that US roads are a in a pretty bad condition (similar to ours) in comparison to the smooth japanese ones. So, the US subsidiary of Tein decided to do R&D and make a local kit for the US.
Here is the technical data:
US Version
Front: 8 kg / 448 mm
Rear: 4kg / 224 mm
Japanease Version
Front: 6.0 kg / 250 mm
Rear: 3.0 kg / 200 mm
Now, sorry to sound like a newbie ... but can someone explain to me what all that data means?
Firstly, why is the front so much higher than for the back (is it due to the higher weight at the front because of the engine?)
Secondly, which kit is 'stiffer', the Japanese or US? How did you work that out?
Any help is appreciated thanks guys!
