Very strange electrical problem... please help

hey fella's

ok i've just noticed this problem recently and its killing me cause i have no idea how to fix it. Basically what happens is that my front lights turn on (half low lights) when i press my breaks. WTF? also my instrument lights turn on aswell...

Why on earth would that be and how can it be fixed?

ohh just so you'se know its nothing to do with the wiring of the stereo as its not installed anymore... i'm stumped!

have a look at all your tail light bulbs?
if they are shorting out they will send continuity back into your wiring and turn everything on
as well make shure you have single element and dubble element bulbs where they should all be
happend to my car whne i replaced the taillight bulb the dash illumination would come on freek me out!

hahaha dood your a champ... thats exactly it coz i just replaced one bulb yesterday and i have to go and but another one today to replace. i'm sure that will fix the problem.

well i replaced all the bulbs today and they work fine but it didn't fix the problem... hahaha man i was so excited thinking it woud be fixed...

any ideas?????

100% sure you got the double element bulbs?

na i'm not actually... can you explain the difference? and where do i get them?

not 100% sure....just look inside the bulb that u use for ure tail lights and ure brake lights...you should see two elements inside the bulb, like two little wires between the prongs. if you can...take a pic of the bulb and post it

the other thing look at the houseing of the bulb and see if the little prongs are offset or inline
inline is single element offset is dubble and look inside the light socket and see if you see offset or inline and match the two up...

I assume you mean your park lights by 'half low lights'? Strangely enough, on a standard car there is a relay that when your park lights are on, it will dim your factory stereo system and turn your dash cluster lights on.

To rule it out for me, make sure every single stereo wire is wrapped up in electrical tape seperately.

Could also be the bearing in your light switch assembly playing silly buggers and moving forward with the braking motion of your car and shorting out the park light switch!

Try looking for a loose earth wire for the taillights, no sure were its located on your car but it would be near the taillights someplace, and also checking the bulb holder itself

ok well the problems totally fixed... turns out last week when i was replacing 2 of the bulbs another crapped itself, so thats why the problem wasn't fixed yet. this morning i changed the last blown bulb and now the problem is gone... finally back to normal.
