Load Index for 18"+ tyres

For those of you have 18"+ wheels, what is your load index of tyres?

OEM 16" tyre has load index of 91 or 615kg

I am struggling to find any 225/40/18 tyre with load index equal or exceed 91. Most of them are 88 or 560kg

BTW, what is the OEM17" tyre's load index? 90?

with 18inch, you should be looking at 235/40 R18 as the rolling diameter is closest to the stock 205/55 R16

Actually the load index of the tyres on the stock 17s is 94 -- the RE040s are available in a variety of speed and load indexes, but the car comes with 94 W rated tyres.

Same as you can be defected for plus fitments beyond a certain size of what came standard on the car, you can also be defected for not running the same load index -- if anyone wants to be picky about it...

You are correct about closest rolling diameter will be a better fitment but 235/40R18 is not the closest.

with OEM size either 225/45R17 or 205/55R16 depending which model of euro u got.

225/45R17 has an overall diameter of 634mm, with load index/speed rating - 91W
205/55R16 has an overall diameter of 632mm, with load index/speed rating - 91W

so if you want to change to 18" rims the best fitment will be 225/40R18, that has a overall diameter of 637mm and closest to the oem sizes. For 235/40R18 its overall diameter is 645mm so it is about 11 or 13mm larger than OEM.
You can fit both sizes on, they all go within the legal requirement of +/-15mm.

And PNR888 if you are looking for 225/40R18 or 235/40R18 with a 91W or greater, i recommend you to look at the Hankook K104 and K107 in those sizes. Both of those 2 models offer load index/speed rating of 92Y XL and 'XL' stands for extra load. you can find the pattern image from www.hankooktyre.com.au.

The new Yokohama A.drive R1's come in 225/40 R18 with a 92 load index. So you should be ok with that.

Tyres in an 18 that will cover your load rating in a 18 or 19 inch wheel that i know of are:

Hankook k104
Falken st-115

The k104 will be cheaper than the st-115
I'm running the st-115 on a 235/35/19 on the euro with a 615kg rating, unreal tire.. But very soft compound and wears quickly

I ran hankook k104 on my old wrx (225/35/18) and that's a 615kg (on a 18 inch wheel) and they lasted 30,000kms & still a very damn good tire! Probaly equal or better than the falken!

Toyo have tyres of that size that has the required load rating... Check them out...

They are from the Touring range..
